What we collect

Email addresses you give us. If you subscribe to updates, request a salary report, or unlock a resource, we store the address you submit, the page or form it came from, and the time you submitted it. We do not require a name, and we do not ask for anything else.

Standard server logs. Our server records requests it receives, which includes IP address, user agent, and the path requested. This is ordinary operational logging used to keep the site running and to diagnose faults.

Which outbound links you follow. When you click an affiliate link, we record which product it was, the destination, and where on the site you clicked it. We do this to know whether our reviews are useful and whether the site earns anything — it is the only measurement of that we have. The record is about the click, not about you: no account, no identifier, no cookie is attached to it, and it is not linked to your email address if you have given us one.

What we do not collect. We do not ask for or store payment details — all purchases happen on the vendor's own site, not ours. We do not collect government identifiers, and we do not attempt to build a profile of you across other websites.

Why we collect it

Email addresses are used to send the thing you asked for and periodic updates about engineering tools, salary data, and deals. Nothing else. You can stop receiving these at any time, and we will act on that request.

Affiliate links and third parties

Many outbound links on this site are affiliate links. When you follow one, the destination vendor may set its own cookies and collect its own data under its own privacy policy, which we do not control and are not responsible for. Read theirs if that matters to you — it should.

We share your email address with the service we use to deliver email, and with nobody else. We do not sell your data. We do not trade it. There is no circumstance in which a third party buys access to our subscriber list.

Cookies

We use the minimum necessary. Your light or dark theme preference is stored in your browser. Where analytics are in use, they are configured to avoid collecting personally identifying information wherever the platform allows it.

Retention

We keep your email address until you ask us to remove it. Records of which outbound links were followed are kept as aggregate counts per product for as long as we measure whether the site earns; they carry no identifier, so there is nothing in them to remove on request. Server logs are retained only as long as they are operationally useful.

Your rights

Depending on where you live — including under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the CCPA in California — you may have the right to access the data we hold about you, correct it, have it deleted, or object to how it is used. We extend these rights to everyone regardless of location, because maintaining two standards is not worth the complexity.

To exercise any of them, email press@onlineengineering.com. We will not ask you to justify the request, and we will not make it difficult.

Children

This site is intended for practising engineers, engineering students, and people entering the profession. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date at the top of this page. We will not quietly broaden what we collect and leave you to notice.
